Los Angeles for the Curious Traveler is a visual and narrative guide to Los Angeles, designed for those who wish to understand the city beyond the most well-known tourist routes.
The volume (272 pages) combines essential texts and author photography to offer a clear and immediate reading of the metropolis: from iconic places to less known areas, with particular attention to the cultural, architectural, and social dimensions of the city.
The book accompanies the reader through a targeted selection of significant locations, including Malibu, the Griffith Observatory, the Art District, the Eames House, the Watts Towers, and the San Vicente Lighthouse. Each stop is presented as part of a coherent narrative, connecting urban landscape, local identity, and contemporary transformations.
Main contents:
- concise overview of key neighborhoods and areas
- selection of iconic places and lesser-known destinations
- high-quality editorial photography
- cultural and contemporary approach to the city
This guide is designed for travelers, creatives, and readers interested in a more conscious view of Los Angeles, where the Hollywood imaginary coexists with a complex and constantly evolving urban reality.
A book to observe, understand, and navigate Los Angeles with an informed perspective.
Andrea Richards writes about cultural history, forgotten philosophical systems, and life in Los Angeles for various organizations and publications, including The Believer, BUST, CicLAvia, make/shift magazine, and LA Weekly. She is a contributor to Los Angeles Magazine and author of the forthcoming book 500 Hidden Secrets of Los Angeles. Her first book, Girl Director: A How-To Guide for the First-Time, Flat-Broke Film and Video Maker, is a celebration of women's history and DIY filmmaking, described by Kim Gordon as "a true reminder of possibilities." A great enthusiast of all things Los Angeles and a staunch supporter of independent publishing, Richards is part of the Narrated Objects collective.
Giovanni Simeone, photographer and editor.
Son and grandson of artists, Giovanni Simeone was born in 1968. After studying photography in Milan, he began his career collaborating with Bell’Italia from its very first issue. In the early nineties, he moved to Germany, where he worked for a photographic agency and embarked on a three-year journey around the world.
Settling in Paris, he began an exclusive collaboration with Le Figaro, for which he produced over fifty reports. In parallel, during frequent returns to Italy, he founded Simephoto, an agency specializing in travel and landscape photography. Over thirty years since its founding, Simephoto brings together about fifty of the leading European photographers and is recognized as a benchmark in the sector.
The agency's portfolio includes international clients such as National Geographic Traveler, Le Figaro, Outside, Geo Germany, Stern, la Repubblica, The Sunday Times, and The Guardian, as well as publishing houses such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guides, and Fodor’s.
In 2011, he founded Simebooks, a publishing house that places photography at the center of every editorial project. As an author, he has published Not Food for Old Men (2015) and Los Angeles Cocktails (2017). Upcoming titles include Baja California Peninsula (as photo editor) and Los Angeles (2025).
