Spectacular photographs, descriptive diagrams and precise texts illustrate, locate and describe the main scenes that decorate the interior of the Cathedral of Monreale, covered with over 6,000 square meters of mosaics, among which the Christ Pantocrator stands out in the apse dome, seven meters high, which dominates the interior. A majestic symbol of the Norman Middle Ages in Sicily, the "golden temple" was built starting in 1172 at the behest of William II. With its fusion of Romanesque, Arab and Byzantine motifs, it is not only an artistic masterpiece, but also a testimony to the cultural fusion that marked medieval Sicily. Next to the Cathedral, the 12th-century Benedictine cloister, with its 228 twin columns adorned with sculpted capitals, offers a visual journey through biblical scenes and decorative motifs. The Cathedral of Monreale has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015, together with the Arab-Norman monuments of Palermo and the cathedral of Cefalù.
