The XVIII edition of the BLUES & WINE AWARDS and the XXII edition of the Blues & Wine Soul Festival were a true triumph

But the most important award this time goes to Joe Castellano himself and the new book “For a true History of Nero d'Avola” by the Publisher Sime Books. A long-awaited work, narrated in great detail by the author himself, which completely revolutionizes and finally establishes a true scientific origin of this vine, after everything has always been entrusted to handed down and totally erroneous news, which have never made us consider what had already been perfectly identified by the greatest scholars of the vine about 150 years before.

These were two different grape varieties. One was the Calabrese Comune (which came from a father called Mantonico Bianco di Calabria) and one was the Calabrese Nero di Avola (also called Nero d'Avola) which instead came from Sangiovese.

But around 1983, due to a sort of hasty and incorrect communication, it was decided to cancel the name of “Calabrese” (still existing today) and to indicate as Calabrese Comune , which instead of Avola was absolutely not…
